Intermediate Technical Theater

Intermediate Technical Theater is a more intense introductory course for students with somewhat limited technical theater experience. Students will focus on the history, vocabulary, responsibilities, and methods practiced by production staff. Students will experience hands on training with various tool found in the theater workplace. This course is designed for a lot of hands-on projects where the students will learn by doing. The students will be using equipment that can be dangerous if not properly handled. Safety is the first priority in everything we do in class or while working on productions. The first couple of weeks will be dedicated to understanding the tools and safety for all the equipment that will be used throughout the year. There is a CREW REQUIRMENT for this class!!!
Students will gain knowledge and hands on experience in:
· Paperwork
· Hand Drafting
· Set Construction and techniques
· Introduction to Scenic Design
· Lighting Design
· Costuming/Sewing
· Stage Management
Formal Grades = 70% Informal Grades=30%
Technical Projects and Tests Homework, daily participation, STRIKE!
Homework/Make-up work/Late work
Homework is due at the beginning of class. If the student is absent it is their responsibility to request work missed and make up that work within 2 business days. Ten points will be deducted from the students’ grade for every business day the assignment is late up to days. On the sixth day the assignment will receive a grade of 0.
Materials Needed
· Architects Drafting Kit
· Pencils (Wooden)
· Thumb drive (one used for another class is acceptable)
· Alternate clothing for crew days. These are clothes that you will not mind getting paint or saw dust on. Close toed shoes are required on these days!!!! Ladies, no skirts or low cut shirts are allowed!
· Safety Contract (This will be explained in class, signed by student and then signed by parent. This must be signed to participate in class!!!!)
