About Me:Hello! My name is Rick Dills. I am proud to be one of two theater teachers here at Independence High School. I teach all technical theater classes as well as some beginning theater classes at The Big I. Theater has been a major part of my life for just over 22 years now. My life in theater started very young in church plays. My junior year of high school my mother encouraged me to take a theater class where I auditioned for our schools fall plays which competed at NCTC. I will forever be grateful to Mr. Carter (my high school theater teacher) for casting me that fall then showing me the joys of theater. I attended Wayne Community College where I obtained my AA and AFA degrees in theater. After Graduating from Wayne I attended East Carolina University earning my BFA in Design and Production for the theater with a concentration in set construction. I moved to Charlotte shortly after and have worked in many theaters in and around the city for the past 17 years until I joined the Big I family in August of 2014! Below are some of the theaters I have worked in and Awards I have received or been nominated for.
